Illinois Beach State Park stretches leisurely for 6 1/2 miles along the sandy shore of Lake Michigan. This state park is recognized for its unique flora, beauty and recreational opportunities for swimming, boating, hiking, picnicking, biking and fishing.
Chain O' Lakes State Park is a water orientated recreation area with excellent water activities for boaters, fisherman and skiers. The park borders three natural lakes, Grass, Marie and Nippersink. The Fox River connects seven other lakes to form the Chain O' Lakes. Besides water sports, this state park offers four trail systems for hiking and biking as well as horse rentals and hayrides.
Step back in time at Miller's Dog N Suds Drive-In. This local drive-in was featured last year in Chicago's Daily Herald as one of the top 10 hot dog stands in the Chicago area. This original 50's style drive-in will have car hops serving you homemade creamy root beer in a frosted glass mug, coney dogs and much more.
Indulge in an afternoon of wine tasting at Valentino Vineyards. This winery produces over 20 different types of wine and has 19 different varieties of grapes grown on over 6,000 vines. Wines available for tasting include Marechal Foch, Red Port, White Port, and Valentine Red Wine. The vineyards are open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
Enjoy four generations of wine making at Lake County's first winery, Glunz Winery. Wines available for tasting include Chardonnay, White Zinfandel, Merlot and Vintage Port. Glunz Winery is open to the public 7 days a week. All wines are available to purchase by the bottle. Even shop for accessories for wine lovers.
The Jubilee Days Festival is held each year over Labor Day weekend in Zion, IL. It is a Lake County tradition offering many activities. The festival includes a parade, queen's pageant, food, fireworks and many other activities throughout the weekend. Spend Labor Day weekend in Zion and see why they say, "Zion...a great place to bee!"
